2015 Pro Bowl Wide Receiver Signs Contract with Tennessee Titans
On April 24, 2025, Tyler Lockett posted on X that he agreed to a one-year deal worth up to six million dollars with the Tennessee Titans. This comes after being released by the Seattle Seahawks in early March. Lockett spent the entirety of his ten-year career with the Seahawks, recording almost 8,600 yards and 65 total touchdowns during that time. The one-time Pro Bowler looks to bolster the Titans’ receiving core with his experience playing alongside receivers like D.K. Metcalf and Doug Baldwin, and catching passes from bonafide starting quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Geno Smith.
At the end of the 2014 season, the Seattle Seahawks just came off a heartbreaking 28-24 loss to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX, where Wilson threw a game-losing interception to Patriots defensive back Malcolm Butler. Watching their chance of the first back-to-back championship seasons since 2003-2004 go out the window, a disgusting taste was left in their mouth. This led to the Seahawks upgrading their receiving room outside of Doug Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse. With the 69th pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks drafted Tyler Lockett, a 5’10 receiver out of Kansas State.
The 2015 First Team All-Pro receiver was never expected to be the jump ball type of player that Randy Moss was, but rather the guy who can use his agility to find open space and make people miss. In his first NFL preseason game, Lockett returned a kickoff for a 103-yard touchdown, and followed it up with a 53-yard punt return touchdown in his first official game of the regular season. Since 2019, Lockett has stopped playing on special teams because of his value to the success of the offense. In his entire career to date, Lockett has only missed one game, breaking his leg in a late-season 2016 matchup versus the NFC West rival Arizona Cardinals. From 2019 to 2022, Lockett achieved 1,000-yard seasons with eight-plus touchdowns playing opposite to D.K. Metcalf. With the emergence of Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the definition of an underrated receiver still provided modest production, posting a statline of 49 receptions, 600 yards, and two touchdowns this past season. While the Titans are projected to pick Cam Ward with the first overall pick, it is that type of output that the Titans should expect out of Lockett, who will be 33 years old at the end of September, still in search of his first Super Bowl ring.
