2023 Stanley Cup Champion Center Signs with the Predators

NHL

Even though the Dallas Stars defeated the Vegas Golden Knights in seven games in the first round of the playoffs last season, 11-year center Jonathan Marchessault continued a run of excellent play that was crucial to the Golden Knights' return to the postseason. Marchessault led the Golden Knights in points with 69 and tied for the 11th-most goals in the league at the end of the regular season with 42. Marchessault improved his play once again during the postseason, going into the seven-game series against the Stars with two goals, two assists, and four points. Marchessault, who was a free agent this offseason, was now scheduled to sign a long-term contract with one of the 32 teams this summer. According to The Athletic, the Nashville Predators have signed Marchessault to a five-year deal for $27.5 million.

Marchessault, 33, began playing hockey as an amateur with the Quebec Remparts in the QMJHL between 2007 and 2011. In 254 games played throughout his four seasons with the Remparts, Marchessault scored 98 goals, 141 assists, and 239 points. Marchessault signed with the Connecticut Whale, the AHL affiliate of the New York Rangers, for the 2011–12 season after failing to be selected in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Marchessault would sign a three-year, entry-level deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets as a free agent after spending one season with the Whale. During the 2015–16 NHL season, Marchessault began to get consistent playing time with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Since then, Marchessault has contributed offensively to every squad he has played for, including the Golden Knights, Panthers, and Lightning.

After being exposed by the Panthers, Marchessault was chosen by the Golden Knights in the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft. Since joining the Knights, he has established himself as a key member of the Vegas offensive. During his seven seasons in Vegas, Marchessault has scored 192 goals, added 225 assists, 417 points, and 42 power-play goals.  Marchessault is a deadly threat on the ice because of his speed, agility, and hockey IQ. His work ethic and leadership abilities also serve as a model for his teammates. Marchessault is set to be a difference-maker for the Predators as they aim for ongoing success into the upcoming season and beyond thanks to his ability to score goals and set plays.
