27-Year-Old Safety Signs Deal with the Raiders
Last offseason, safety Jeremy Chinn signed with the Washington Commanders after spending the first four years of his career with the Carolina Panthers. With the help of the 27-year-old safety, the Commanders had a season no fan could ever expect, and one that will be remembered for the next decade. Washington had a 12-5 season after going 3-14 the season prior. The team made it all the way to the NFC Championship Game where they were defeated by their division rival and eventual Super Bowl winner Philadelphia Eagles. It has just been reported by Jordan Schultz that Chinn has agreed to a deal with the Las Vegas Raiders for a two-year deal worth over $16 million.
The Carolina Panthers selected Chinn as the 64th overall pick during the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He recorded over 216 combined tackles and 10 pass deflections throughout his first two seasons in the league. Injuries derailed his greatness as the 27-year-old only played 11 and 12 games during the 2022 and 2023 NFL seasons. However, with the Commanders last season, Chinn was able to play every game during the regular season and the playoffs. For the third time in his career, he was able to put up another 100 combined tackles this past season.
In 17 games played, the 27-year-old safety put up 117 combined tackles, 73 solo, and 44 assisted. He also had two tackles for a loss of yardage as well as two sacks, five pass deflections, and an interception. On January 5th against the Dallas Cowboys, Chinn had 13 combined tackles, eight solo and five assisted as well as two tackles for a loss of yardage and a sack during a 23-19 win. During the three games he played in the postseason, the 27-year-old had 29 combined tackles. It’s fairly obvious if he stays healthy, Chinn will be a vital factor in the Raiders’ defense.
