29-Year-Old Wide Receiver Signs with Titans
The 2023 NFL season was a severely disappointing one for the Cincinnati Bengals. After a rough start to the beginning of the season, quarterback Joe Burrow had a torn ligament in his wrist, and missed the rest of the season. Once backup Jake Browning stepped into the role as the Bengals' starter, 29-year-old wide receiver Tyler Boydd started to see the football less and less. Cincinnati put up a 9-8 record, but unfortunately missed the playoffs, as their division rival, the Pittsburgh Steelers took the last playoff spot in the AFC Wild Card race. Boyd became a free agent after this disappointing season. Now, it’s been reported Tyler has signed a one-year deal with the Tennessee Titans.
Boyd played three years of college ball at the University of Pittsburgh. As a Panther, the 29-year-old wide receiver racked up over 3,000 yards with 21 touchdowns. He was named to the First Team All-ACC two times in 2014, and 2015, while being named to the Second Team All-ACC in 2013. Tyler Boyd was selected in the second round as the 55th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Since then, he’s helped build the culture back up for this Bengals team that's been suffering to have a good team before the Burrow era. Boyd played with his back against the wall during the 2021 playoffs and helped Cincinnati appear in their first Super Bowl since 1989.
Last season, Tyler Boyd played in all 17 games with the Bengals. With 67 receptions Boyd had 667 receiving yards with two touchdowns. His receiving yards per season have steadily declined as he hasn’t had a 1,000-yard season since 2019. The 29-year-old wide receiver’s best game of the season was a week before Burrow tore the ligament in his wrist. In a 30-27 loss against the Houston Texans, Boyd had eight catches for 117 yards. Hopefully, he’ll get himself going once again with the Titans.
