3 Most Disappointing NBA Teams This Season

NBA

There is no doubt that the five worst teams in the NBA this season are the Detroit Pistons, Washington Wizards, San Antonio Spurs, Charlotte Hornets, and Portland Trail Blazers. However, multiple of these teams were expected to be quite bad going into this season for reasons such as the Pistons' only consistent offensive option is Cade Cunningham and the shooting of Bojan Bogdanovic, Kyle Kuzma is the Wizards’ best player, the Spurs don’t have a whole lot going for them offensively or defensively besides rookie Victor Wembanyama, and the Trail Blazers are going through what looks to be the beginning of a rebuild with multiple new guys on their team this year still trying to figure things out in Portland. While these may be the worst teams, they are not necessarily the most disappointing. Let’s take a look at three of the most disappointing NBA teams this season.

Golden State Warriors

Going into this NBA season the Golden State Warriors made a move that caught a lot of media attention. On July 6, 2023, they traded shooting guard Jordan Poole, forward Patrick Balwin Jr., guard Ryan Rollins, and draft picks to the Washington Wizards in exchange for twelve-time all-star point guard Chris Paul. While we all know Chris Paul, because he will be 39 years old in a few months, is not the same player he used to be, everyone thought the Warriors would be way better this season with him than they have been. However, maybe we should all give Chris Paul more credit because in the last five games, the Warriors have played without him, as he is sitting out a few weeks with a hand fracture injury, they have only won one game and look even worse than they were before his injury departure. Currently, Golden State is sitting 12th in the Western Conference with a below-average record of 18-22 nearly halfway through the season and things do not seem to be getting any better. With Draymond Green’s recent fighting Rudy Gobert fiasco, missing nearly a month of basketball due to his league suspension, and shooting guard Klay Thompson being an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season it makes you wonder: Is the Golden State Warriors dynasty team nearing its end?

Atlanta Hawks

Before last season, in the summer of 2022, the Atlanta Hawks made a big move by trading power forward Danilo Gallinari and multiple future first-round draft picks for shooting guard Dejounte Murray and center Jock Landale. The new backcourt duo of point guard Trae Young and shooting guard Dejounte Murray quickly made headlines all over sports on every form of social media. However, while this trade was great for Atlanta in terms of the fact they got a new all-star caliber player, this season the team as a collective has without a doubt underperformed. Young and Murray have been playing great, averaging nearly 27 points 11 assists, and 21 points a game respectively. Shooting guard Bogdan Bogdanovic is also having a great season averaging close to 17 points a game, meanwhile small forward Jalen Johnson is having a breakout year in his third season in the league averaging 15 points a night. Not to mention the Hawks also have small forward De’Andre Hunter, small forward Saddiq Bey, and center Clint Capela who are all valuable members of the team on the offensive and defensive end in their franchise. Despite all of these guys being on the roster the Hawks are currently sitting at the bottom of the play-in as the ten seed with a record of 18-24. With all the Murray trade rumors circling the sports world, it begs the question: Will the Hawks make a big move before this season’s trade deadline?

Charlotte Hornets

If you notice in the intro paragraph of this article, I did not list a reason why the Hornets are so bad. That's because there isn’t one. Yes, the Hornets have dealt with an insane amount of injuries this season as star point guard LaMelo Ball has had a never-ending circle of ankle injuries and he has not been the only one hurt as shooting guard Terry Rozier, small forward Gordon Hayward, center Mark Williams, and essentially the entire team has been dealing with some sort of injury and missed numerous games this season. Despite all of this there’s no excuse for the Hornets, who have three players in Terry Rozier, LaMelo Ball, and small forward Miles Bridges who all average over 20 points, to have a record of 9-31 through 40 games. If you are a Hornets fan there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel. There has been talk about Rozier, Hayward, and others being traded before the deadline this year. All these rumors point toward the possibility that we may see some movement around the Hornets roster sometime this season: Will we see the Hornets make a trade move this year?

Who do you think are the most disappointing teams in the NBA this year?
