30-Year-Old Defensive Tackle Resigns with the Colts

NFL

30-year-old defensive tackle Grover Stewart has been playing with the Indianapolis Colts for the past seven seasons since he was selected by the team during the 2017 NFL Draft. Indianapolis surprised many fans, and teams around the league during the 2023 season. They had a chance to make the AFC playoff picture as the final seed but lost to the eventual AFC South winners, the Houston Texans in a close 23-19 matchup. Grover has appeared in a total of three playoff games during his seven-year career. Today, it was announced Stewart has signed a three-year deal to return to the Colts. Now, back with Indianapolis, the defensive tackle may have a chance to go further into the postseason.

Grover Stewart played four seasons at Albany State University. During his time with the Golden Rams, the future seven-year pro defensive end recorded 141 tackles with 27 career sacks which resulted in a net loss of 189 yards. The 30-year-old defensive tackle would go on to be drafted by the Colts during the fourth round as the 144th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Stewart was a backup for his first two seasons before officially becoming a full-time starter in 2019. During the 2020 season, Grover agreed to a three-year extension with Indianapolis which lasted until the 2023 season.

Last season, the 30-year-old defensive end only played in 11 games with the Colts. In the middle of October, it was announced Stewart would be suspended for six games for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs. Grover went on to finish the season with 41 combined tackles, 23 solo, and 18 assisted, while having five tackles for loss of yardage, and a half of a sack. His best of the 2023 season was on Christmas Eve against the Atlanta Falcons. During a 29-10 loss, Grover Stewart had five combined tackles, with two of those tackles for a loss of yardage.
