Aaron Pico vs. Movsar Evloev: Does the Newcomer Have a Chance?

UFC

Aaron Pico, a 28-year-old powerhouse known for his explosive pocket boxing and crisp combinations, has officially signed with the UFC. Boasting a professional record of 13-4, Pico has found his stride in recent years, going 9-1 in his last 10 bouts, with his only loss coming via a shoulder injury mid-fight. A former Bellator standout, Pico enters the UFC as one of the most dangerous featherweights outside the promotion, now ready to prove himself on the biggest stage in one of the most competitive divisions. Across the octagon stands Movsar Evloev, the undefeated 19-0 phenom with elite-level grappling and a suffocating pace. Evloev’s résumé includes wins over former champion Aljamain Sterling, Arnold Allen, Diego Lopes, and Dan Ige, cementing his place among the division’s elite. A clash between Pico and Evloev promises fireworks, blending high-level striking with relentless wrestling in a potential featherweight classic.

In this clash of styles, Pico will look to keep the fight on the feet, using his sharp pocket boxing, body shots, and explosive combinations to break through Evloev’s pressure. Movsar Evloev, on the other hand, will aim to close the distance, take Pico down, and smother him with his trademark grappling and top control. Both fighters come in with something to prove. Pico, hungry and relentless, has been publicly calling for a UFC opportunity for months, always ready to fight and eager to show he belongs with the best. Evloev, despite his perfect record, is well aware that his grappling-heavy style hasn’t always won over the UFC brass or fans. Taking this high-risk, high-reward fight with Pico is his way of proving he can deliver excitement and deserves a shot at the title. With so much on the line, this bout could define the trajectory of both men’s futures in the UFC.

This three-round showdown, expected to take place on a UFC Fight Night on May 17th, 2025, isn’t 100% confirmed just yet, but all signs point toward it being finalized soon. I predict Aaron Pico will have moments of success, landing crisp shots in the pocket similar to what Arnold Allen was able to do against Evloev. However, throughout the fight, I believe Movsar’s relentless wrestling and control will prove too much, handing Pico his first clear-cut loss in years. Evloev may not always win fans over with his style, but his ability to neutralize opponents and secure victories is undeniable. That said, Pico’s talent, hunger, and striking prowess still signal a bright future in the UFC. With the right matchups, particularly against fellow strikers, he could be a major force in the featherweight division.
