Adrian Newey’s Move and Formula One’s Reaction

Adrian Newey has recently made a move from Red Bull racing to the Aston Martin team. This did not necessarily come out of the blue, but some are surprised. Not only from his exit from Red Bull but also the fact that he picked Aston Martin over Ferrari, who had recently shown interest in him. So why exactly did he make this move and what are drivers on the grid thinking?

First, we should discuss Newey’s accomplishments. The 65-year-old has been working in Formula One for 44 years now and just recently went on break. This break was essentially the issue that set Red Bull back in the races the past month. He is essential to Red Bull’s success and image, as he has been working for them as the vehicle designer for almost two decades now. In Newey’s long career so far, he has managed to collect 25 world titles with his teams. With this, you can imagine he has quite the reputation in Formula One. So, it’s no wonder these teams want him to join. 

Newey recently announced his removal from Red Bull about halfway through this season. From there, Most everyone believed that was his retirement, but he quickly made a return with Aston Martin. So why did he choose the Aston Martin racing team? Well, Aston Martin President Lawrence Stroll offered him a very enticing deal. He offered to make him a shareholder, giving Newey a say and decision in almost all aspects of the Aston Martin team. This was Newey’s deciding factor. He considers this the “ultimate project,” allowing himself to face more difficult challenges. 

Being known as one of the best designers in Formula One history, there are bound to be some surprising reactions. People who have worked with him for years, like Max Verstappen and “arch-nemesis” Fernando Alonso were some current drivers you released statements on the situation. Max Verstappen has previously claimed the main reason for his success was due to Newey’s designs and ideas. So, Verstappen was of course happy for him and his move, stating, “I’m not surprised because I knew it was coming.” He knew Adrien would want more and to return to Formula One. Fernando Alonso, who Newey will be working with for the future 2025 and 2026 seasons, also commented on the situation. He believes Newey is going to make Aston Martin the team of the future, and is sad he won’t be able to work with him very long, as Alonso plans to retire and take on different roles after 2026. 

Everyone on the grid has so much respect for Adrian Newey and is excited to see what he accomplishes with his new team. Newey has amazing respect towards all of his past team and drivers as well as future team members, like Alonso. He calls him a legend and has wanted to work with him for years. With all of these people openly happy for each other and looking forward to it, it will be an amazing experience for everyone involved, including the fans watching.
