Barcelona in Crisis: The Case of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, a Historic Setback?

There was no miracle. There was no unexpected turn of events. There was no white smoke. Barça will not be able to score in La Liga nor count on Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor for the second half of the season. Both players, deregistered by the club on the 1st for not complying with the economic control regulations, will not wear the Barça shirt again, at least during this season. Joan Laporta faces a historic setback in his management, while the two forwards' future remains in the air. It is yet to be confirmed whether the club will exhaust the last available resources, such as going to the Higher Sports Council or the courts.

In an unprecedented joint statement, LaLiga and the RFEF rejected Barça's request: "The Monitoring Committee of the LALIGA-RFEF Coordination Agreement has met to discuss the request for a prior visa and processing of the federation licenses of the players Mr. Daniel Olmo Carvajal and Mr. Pau Víctor Delgado, submitted by FC Barcelona...". According to them, articles 130.2 and 141.5 of the General Regulations of the RFEF prevent a player whose license has been canceled from obtaining a new license with the same team during the same season. This outcome marks a historic setback for the club, which had opted for every possible means to solve the problem.

The club president remained optimistic until the last moment, certain that his efforts would be successful. He tried different strategies, from legal appeals to the sale of VIP boxes and the request to the RFEF to grant new licenses. However, the historic setback materialized: these operations did not resolve the situation of Olmo and Víctor. In the end, neither player will be able to be registered and will no longer be part of the club's squad for this season.

Dani Olmo, whose contract was already fraught with complications due to Barça's problems with Fair Play, is now without a contract or a contract. If the appeals to the CSD and the courts are unsuccessful, the attacking midfielder could seek a temporary exit before returning next season, possibly to Hansi Flick's team. Meanwhile, Pau Víctor, with a contract until 2029, also sees his future uncertain. The most likely scenario is that Barça will grant him a free transfer and renegotiate his contract. Both players want to remain part of the club, but for now, the outcome represents a historic setback that highlights the economic and administrative challenges that the institution faces.
