Bears vs. Texans Week Two Preview
With both teams coming off a victory in Week One, the Chicago Bears are set to take on the Houston Texans in Week Two. The Bears have a tough one on the road against C.J. Stroud and company as they merely pulled off a win against the Colts this past Sunday 29-27. The Bears proved that they shouldn’t be taken lightly as Chicago forced a comeback win against the Titans this past Sunday 24-17. One of the takeaways from the Bears’ victory was how well their defense performed the whole game. If the defense can perform just as well as they did against Tennessee, the Bears could be in a great spot against this well-rounded Texans offense. Will Caleb Williams play better in Week Two than he did in Week One?
Bears wide receivers Rome Odunze and Keenan Allen did not play in yesterday's and today’s practices due to injuries. Odunze is reported day-to-day as he has an MCL sprain and Allen banged up his heel during last Sunday’s game. The Bears could be in some trouble if Odunze and Allen can’t suit up for Sunday’s game. Head coach Matt Eberflus has this to say on Odunze’s injury, “We’re in a good spot, it’s nothing serious.” Caleb Williams didn’t look up to par in the game against the Titans passing just 14-of-29 for 93 yards, zero touchdowns, and zero interceptions, so this could potentially be another game where the Bears’ defense will have to come up big if they want to win Sunday.
Last Sunday, C.J. Stroud went 24-for-32 passing for 234 yards with two touchdowns. Texans running back Joe Mixon ran the ball 30 times for 159 yards and a touchdown. Then Texans wide receiver Stefon Diggs caught six-of-six balls for 33 yards and two touchdown passes from Stroud. It was quite the battle between the Texans and Colts as it was a neck-and-neck game the whole way through. Defensively, the Texans stopped the run pretty well as they held Colts running back Jonathan Taylor to only 48 yards on 16 attempts and a five-yard rushing touchdown. The defense also brought down Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson a total of four times. The Texans also did a great job keeping possession of the football for 40 minutes in comparison to the Colts’ 20 minutes. If the Bears want to win Sunday, they need to be consistent on both sides of the ball. The defense has to prevail once again and Caleb Williams needs to find more looks, hopefully with both a healthy Rome Odunze and Keenan Allen.
