Bills Make Statement with Dominant Victory Over the Cowboys
The Bills made known to the NFL why they are a team to be feared heading into the final stretch of the regular season and postseason as they finished off a 31-10 statement victory over the Dallas Cowboys. The Bills, who improved to 8-6, were able to gouge the Cowboys’ staunch run defense running for 266 yards and containing a high-power Dallas passing attack by limiting them to a total of 106 yards in the game. The Cowboys, who dropped to 10-4, failed to find any success on both sides of the field by giving up 351 total yards and only totaling 195 yards in the game. For Dallas, the loss showcased a glaring weakness of their inability to be a quality opponent on the road, as they dropped to 3-4 on the road, compared to a 7-0 home record. Let’s take a look at how the Bills were able to pull off an impressive home victory on Sunday afternoon.
The Bills would punch the Cowboys’ defense in the mouth on their first drive of the game by scoring on a two-yard touchdown run by running back Latavius Murray to take a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. The next scoring would occur at the beginning of the second quarter as the Bills would score on a Josh Allen 18-yard-deep pass touchdown to running back James Cook to extend their lead to 14-0. The Cowboys would answer with a 32-yard field goal by kicker Brandon Aubrey to cut the deficit to 14-3 with seven minutes left in the first half. The Bills would extend their lead to 21-3 following a one-yard touchdown run by Allen with under two minutes left in the half. On their first drive of the second half, the Bills would extend their lead to 24-3 following a 23-yard field goal by kicker Tyler Bass with two minutes left in the third quarter.
With under 12 minutes left in the game, the Bills would put the game out of reach on a 24-yard touchdown run by Cook to increase their lead to 31-3. The Cowboys would score once more in the game on a late touchdown drive following a three-yard run by wide receiver CeeDee Lamb to cut their deficit to 31-10 with three minutes left in the game. In the victory, the Bills’ passing attack was limited due to sloppy weather conditions as Allen would finish the game going 7 for 15, with 94 passing yards and one touchdown. However, the Bills were able to find a potload of success running the football on the Cowboys’ defense, as Cook led the way rushing for 179 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries. In the loss, the Cowboys’ offense was held in check throughout with quarterback Dak Prescott going 21 for 34, with 134 passing yards and one interception. The Bills will look to keep pace with the AFC East-leading Dolphins, as they travel to face the Chargers next week, while the Cowboys will aim to rebound as they travel to Miami to square off against the Dolphins on Christmas Eve.
