Browns Takeaways Week Four

NFL

The Cleveland Browns lost to the Las Vegas Raiders, 20-16 earlier this afternoon. Quarterback Deshaun Watson had another disappointing outing, throwing for 176 yards. He has yet to crack over 200 passing yards this season. With a chance to take the lead in the final three minutes, Watson could not get the Browns into the end zone. Watson was paid the largest guaranteed contract in history and could not even get a throw-off in a do-or-die situation.

A key play occurred early in the fourth quarter. Watson zipped a ball downfield to a wide-open Amari Cooper, who ran it in for a touchdown. The play was called back for an offensive holding and it prevented the Browns from taking the lead. It was one of the few plays that Watson actually needed to hold onto the football to let the play develop, as he has a tendency to hold the ball and take coverage sacks at times.

This was a game that the Browns should have been expected to win, as the Raiders were without multiple key players, including Davante Adams and Maxx Crosby. The Browns did nothing offensively after the first quarter. It was only the defense that came up with a scoop and score to give the offense multiple chances to win it at the end. The secondary defense led by Denzel Ward did their part, giving up less than 200 passing yards. Myles Garrett had a two-sack game as the Browns’ defense did their part with the four-man pass rush and man coverage. All in all, not even All-Pro running back Nick Chubb could save this offense.
