Browns Week One Preview Against Cowboys

NFL

The Cleveland Browns are set to host the Dallas Cowboys to open up their regular season schedule. The last time the Browns played America’s team, the Browns claimed a wild 49-38 victory. Cleveland is seeking its third straight season-opening win. The Browns went 0-3 in the preseason tune-up games.

There are some notable matchups and players to keep an eye on. Wide receiver Amari Cooper will be facing off against one of his previous teams. Cornerback Trevon Diggs will likely get the primary matchup to cover Cooper. The matchup is a battle of one of the top route runners going up against one of the most aggressive cornerbacks in football.

Another matchup to keep tabs on is defensive end Micah Parsons against the Browns tackles Jedrick Wills Jr and Jack Conklin. The Browns come into the season having one of the top offensive lines in football. With that said, expect the Browns to play Parsons one-on-one and not send a chip blocker or a slide the pass protection towards Parsons’ side of the ball. This would allow the Browns to pick up blitzes easier.

Perhaps the most notable player to watch is quarterback Deshaun Watson. Expect a heavy dose of design runs for Watson that can open up Cleveland’s playbook. Watson has a tendency to hold onto the football for an extended time and if Cleveland can have offensive drives of “dink and dunk” where Watson gets the ball out faster, it will balance out their offense. Watson also has the ability to make the “superhero” play when his physical strength gets him out of a sack and keeps the play going. The Browns-Cowboys game is set to start at 4:25 p.m. EST on Fox.
