Buffalo to Bounce Back Against AFC East Rival New York

NFL

The Bills look to rebound after a close loss in Houston last Sunday, falling 23-20 to the Texans on a last-second field goal. Despite being taken into concussion protocol, starting quarterback Josh Allen will be good to go Monday night in their Week Seven matchup with AFC East rivals, the New York Jets. The University of Wyoming product posted his worst game, statistically, of the season against Houston, so this is a big matchup for the quarterback and the standings. With two straight losses, Buffalo has to stop the bleeding and has a great opportunity to do so tonight against a spinning New York Jets team.

Offensively, the Bills started out the year with great protection for their star quarterback, holding opponents to a high of 30% Quarterback Pressure Rate with an average of 24.5%, according to AWS. In the two weeks since then, this rate has jumped to an average of 44.9% and a high of 45.7% of dropbacks. It is no secret that it is much harder to play with this type of consistent pressure but it is essential the Bills get back to form against a good defense tonight. In the first five weeks of the season, the New York Jets are fourth in quarterback pressure rate and seventh in sacks.

On defense, the Bills take on a struggling Jets’ offense after putting together a solid second half against the Texans in Week Six. The key for this Buffalo defense will be forcing quarterback Aaron Rodgers to throw the ball, which may seem a bit counterproductive given the skill of the player. However through five weeks, when the Jets throw the ball more often, they are more likely to lose. This plays great for Buffalo which has produced a much better passing defense than they have against the run this season.
