Can Aaron Glenn Fix the New York Jets?
The New York Jets had a very tough year, going 5-12 and having their ninth straight losing season. They would fire former head coach, Robert Saleh after only five weeks into the 2024 season, where they started 2-3. The Jets have not made the playoffs since 2010, which currently stands as the longest drought in the NFL. The Jets have had 25 different quarterbacks start a game for them in that same span, unable to find their true starting quarterback. With the losing seasons piling up in the Jets organization, with many of the same mistakes being made, they will now turn to former Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn.
Aaron Glenn had a huge hand in Detroit’s recent success, creating a strong defensive culture that was able to compete with the top NFL offenses. After a heartbreaking playoff loss for Glenn and his team last season, both he and former Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson would leave for head coaching jobs. With Glenn being allowed to take over the Jets, many now wonder if he can turn the franchise around. Many have tried before him, but ultimately were unable to fix every issue and ended up with the same results. He has already started to make some noise and has proven he’s not afraid to shake things up to get his new team where they used to be.
Glenn would announce that the Jets would be parting ways with now-former quarterback Aaron Rodgers and would later sign quarterback Justin Fields from the Pittsburgh Steelers. Fields has proven he has the potential to become a star in the NFL, but hasn’t quite found his head coach to unlock his full potential. Glenn will look to develop a superstar for the city of New York to stand behind. The Jets have had a tough time in franchise history looking for a franchise quarterback and will hope Fields can be their guy. Glenn has already told the fans that he came to New York to rebuild the team’s culture, and will now look to continue that later this week in the 2025 NFL Draft.
