Can Inter Miami Sustain Success Through the MLS Season?

MLS

With Soccer legend Lionel Messi residing in Miami and playing for a Floridian team, the aurora around the Sunshine State is beaming with joy. Of course, when Messi made the transfer move over to Inter Miami CF from PSG, he knew he needed some reinforcements to stay in control of Major League Soccer. With the additions of Uruguayan legend Luis Suarez, as well as Barcelona greats Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, Inter Miami has the ingredients to do the unthinkable. The unthinkable that is perfecting an invincible season in the league.

Coming off a 5-0 win vs inner state rival Orlando City FC, Messi, and Suarez both led the way like they were back at Barcelona. The Argentinian magician put on a show with two goals, while Suarez notched two goals with two assists to go along with it. In a smooth sailing first three matches, Inter Miami see themselves sitting atop the table with eight points, two wins, and one draw to LA Galaxy. While the team sits at having a goal differential of +7, the point of success in the first batch of games will go to the defense. In having Sergio Busquets calm down the back line playing in the center defensive position, there is nobody better to have on the ball in times of worry. Good technique, crisp passes, as well as a high Football IQ, helps Busquets be one of the great players we have seen in the past decade. Jordi Alba, his previous Barcelona left-back, helps configure the back line with some experience, as well as defending masterclass.

Of course, the main attraction is Lionel Messi, fresh off a World Cup, and playing some lovely football at the moment. With three goals on the season in his first three matches, Messi is not only going for the MLS Cup but can also keep an eye on the Golden Boot. His main competition for that award will be his buddy, Luis Suarez who has a keen eye for goal landing two in the back of the net this season.  Up next for Inter Miami CF will be a trip to the Music City, where they take on Nashville SC in the Round of 16 for the CONCACAF Champions Cup. This will be the first leg of two in the tournament, with the next game being played at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. In having many upcoming games intertwined with one another, in playing midweek and weekend matches, stamina will be an important issue for Gerardo Martino’s team.
