Can the Giants Pull Off the Upset Against the Ravens?
The Giants have been considered the underdogs in the entire NFL at this point in the season. It’s practically over, and there is nothing more that they can do. Everything that has been done has been considered to have a complete backfire on them at this point. The season is officially lost. However, the Giants are going to continue to play until the very end. This coming weekend, they are going to play the Baltimore Ravens. Here are several things they need to do to attempt to move themselves up in the NFL.
These two teams have met several times over the last several years. They have played at least eight times, including one postseason game. The Ravens lead the series with five wins, while the Giants currently only have three. The first thing that the Giants need to do is put more heart into the love of the game. That has been an issue all season; there has been no love except from very few members of this Giants team, such as Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns, and Malik Nabers. Having a well-rounded and bonded team is the basis for any team winning a game, and to some, this is what seems to be missing from the Giants. The quarterbacks between Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock need to find trust in their teammates, and the others need to find trust in them, too. The Giants have had so many changes at this point that it causes more downfall for this team than them actually having it together to play for the love of the game.
The second area that the Giants need to focus on to bring home a win would be to step up the third-stringers. They may not have had a lot of playing time except for during the preseason, but with everyone hurt at the moment from the first stringers, these guys need more work than anyone. Head coach Brian Daboll may not have a choice at this point but to practice with them and make sure they are ready to go. They did decent during the game against New Orleans last weekend. A little more practice time should secure them to be decent for the remaining games that are left.
Lastly, the Giants should not feel intimidated by the Ravens. They may be a second-tier team, but the Giants can pull through if they really put their minds to it. They just need to make sure their defense can limit the explosiveness of the Ravens’ offense, led by quarterback Lamar Jackson. The Giants’ offense also needs to put together consistent drives so that they can move the football down the field.
If the Giants can manage to pull off all of these things for this weekend's game, it would be a better look than it has been for the whole season. It all depends on them at this point and what they do with it. Just because they lost a bunch of games already, as it is, does not mean that they need to give up on themselves until it is officially over. If the Giants don’t pull it together, then the team really needs something more than just a rebuild.
