Canucks Shut Out by Joey Daccord as They Fall to the Kraken Once Again
The Canucks returned to Rogers Arena following a six-game road trip to face off against the Seattle Kraken. The Canucks were 2-2-1 in their last five games against Seattle and desperately needed a win here as they were 2-2-2 in their last six games on the road. The Canucks really needed to step up in this game, especially with several players still out with undisclosed injuries. However, after a tough 60 minutes, the Canucks could not beat the Kraken as Seattle completely ran the game.
Even though the Canucks outshot the Kraken 9-7 during the first period, they fell short during the first 20 minutes. Seattle’s Michael Eyssimont opened the scoring with an unassisted goal just under 17 minutes into the period. The goal came on a Seattle power play following a goaltender interference call against Vancouver’s Teddy Blueger, sending the Kraken into their first power play of the game. Despite two power plays for the Canucks after penalties called on Michael Eyssimont and Jamie Oleksiak, the Canucks could not find the net, leaving the final score of the period 1-0 in favor of the Kraken.
Unfortunately for the Canucks, the second period did not bring about any sort of redemption despite once again outshooting the Kraken 14-17. The period opened with a penalty on Derek Forbort for slashing against John Hayden, sending the Kraken on another power play. To make matters worse for Vancouver, Chandler Stephenson fired a wrist shot with assists from Andre Burakovsky and Jared McCann to put Seattle up 2-0. The Canucks went on another power play following a penalty called on Michael Eyssimont for hooking against Drew O’Connor but were unable to get themselves on the scoreboard. With four minutes left in the period, Shane Wright, with assists from Jared McCann and Vince Dunn, widened the Kraken’s lead by two, wrapping up the period 3-0 in favor of Seattle.
Things began to heat up in the third period. Elias Pettersson and Jani Nyman both earned themselves two minutes in the box for roughing, kicking things off early in the period. Eight minutes into the period, Andre Burakovsky earned his second point of the game with a goal assisted by Shane Wright, putting the Kraken up 4-0. The Canucks pulled goaltender Thatcher Demko with five minutes left in the game, but despite the extra attacker, they still could not land a successful shot. Seattle’s Adam Larsson fired an empty netter assisted by Vince Dunn and Tye Kartye and extended the Kraken’s lead to 5-0. Despite some good shot attempts for the Canucks, they were unable to find the net, leading to another tough loss for the team.
The Canucks outshot the Kraken 25-19 throughout the game, but Seattle’s goaltender Joey Daccord did not allow anything to get past him. Daccord had a 1.0 save percentage while Thatcher Demko had a save percentage of .778. It’s safe to say this was not quite the homecoming the Canucks were hoping for following an overall disappointing set of games on the road. With this loss, the Canucks hopes of securing a spot in the playoffs dwindle even more.
