Chargers Should Get This All-Pro Corner
As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, there are more and more rumors flying around the league flying around. The most recent rumble comes out from South Florida. The Miami Dolphins and Jalen Ramsey have both agreed to seek a trade partner to move the All-Pro cornerback. Ramsey was traded to the Dolphins in 2023 from the Los Angeles Rams. In his time with the Dolphins, Ramsey has played in 27 total games and logged five interceptions.
This upcoming season for Ramsey will be year number 10. He is still highly regarded as one of the better corners in the league. There are going to be multiple suitors for Ramsey, including the Los Angeles Chargers. The Bolts’ cornerback room consists of Tarheeb Still, Cam Hart, Donte Jackson, and Benjamin St-Juste. Still and Hart are still young, but they showed a lot of promise in their rookie seasons. The addition of Ramsey would provide the Chargers with a true cornerback, one that opposing offenses would have to worry about.
Trading for Ramsey would not be expensive when talking about draft capital. A day three pick would get the job done. The real worry about a trade is the money the Chargers or any other team that acquires Ramsey would have to pay. Just before the 2024 season, Ramsey inked a three-year contract worth just over $72 million. The team that trades for Ramsey would be responsible for the $21 million he is owed for this season and the rest of the contract. This could be a valid reason for the Chargers not to make a move for Ramsey, as this new regime has not made crazy money spending moves. However, Ramsey could be an exception, especially since he would elevate their defense dramatically.
Ramsey coming back to Los Angeles, but to the Chargers, would be a great story. Especially when considering he is very good friends with star safety Derwin James. The two became friends at Florida State University, Ramsey’s last year in college and James’ first. They have both been very vocal about reuniting again at the pro level, and this opportunity might allow that to happen. The pairing of Ramsey and James with defensive coordinator Jesse Minter would wreak havoc on opposing offenses.
