Chelsea Wants Argentina Star Striker Lautaro Martinez Really Bad

Lautaro Martinez is like a prime stock that is purchased cheap but grows well for a long period of time and promises a better return. Now is a good time for Inter Milan to cash in on their investment. The defending Serie A leading goal scorer is on the radar of Premier League club Chelsea who is fully invested as they would like to link him with fellow Argentine Enzo Fernandez. In fact, the Blues are willing to part with three players and cash to lure a talent that is in his prime and has played up to the moment no matter what level is presented. Chelsea can thank Inter coach Simone Inzaghi who Lautaro credits for his improvement as Inzaghi also was a striker in his day. “His secret is that sometimes he still thinks like a player, so he understands us really well and lives things the way we do, “Lautaro explained, “It allows me to play with a clear mind and joy. Those are very positive things.”

Lautaro has come into his own averaging twenty goals for the past three seasons culminating in a Serie A-leading 24 goals in 2023-2024. He teams well with fellow strikers Frenchman Marcus Thuram, Mehdi Taremi of Iran, and Belgian Marko Arnautovic. Though he has lost some form this season, even this may be something of a mirage as five goals in fifteen games is nothing to sniff at as he has tallied the second most goals on the club thus far. Martinez has proven to not just be a goal scorer but a well-rounded talent adding possession football to his creative feet in the box along with speed bursts that threaten the nets in any given game and making others better. He also has a penchant for collecting trophies. A look at his Italian resume includes two league titles, two Italian Cups, and three Italian Supercups.

He continued this trend with the Argentine National Team scoring three goals and a key penalty to help garner the 2021 Copa America. He continued with the first goal and added an assist in the 3-0 over Italy in the 2022 Finalissima. This performance convinced Lionel Scaloni to add him to the 2022 World Cup squad. Despite an ankle injury, he had a goal disallowed against Saudi Arabia in the opener. However, he provided the key moment in a passionate quarterfinal match against Holland. His penalty goal was the last word and the difference maker. He replaced a slumping Julian Alvarez in the final and played well as Lionel Messi lifted his first World Cup.

It's the 2024 Copa America final in Houston, Texas. It's Argentina vs Colombia in a scoreless tie. A legend has fallen to an injury which removes him from the championship pitch. The role of the hero has yet to be cast. It appears that Nico Gonzalez would be the one on three separate occasions. Yet, he falls short each time.

Yet the albiceleste has a trump card coming off the bench. It just so happens to be the tournament-leading scorer who is sprinting to the center of the field. It's Lautaro Martinez and with Lionel Messi, swollen ankle and all, is resigned to watch from the bench. He sees Martinez breaking away from the right until he shoots a low laser shot over a falling goalie David Ospina, his Inter Milan compatriot.

It's the stuff of legends, a championship pedigree once again displayed. A repeat Copa win, a record 16th South American title, and a golden boot are proof positive why Lautaro is the money player that Chelsea wants. The Blues coach Enzo Maresca can envision Martinez breaking key games open in their favor while helping to complete the culture change Enzo prefers by raising club aggression. Lautaro would bring that in spades. They currently sit third in the Premiership looking to prevent Liverpool from pulling away for good. They need Lautaro that badly.
