Christian Woods Knee Injury Update
The Los Angeles Lakers have had a hectic off-season. They want to get things back in order before the new season starts in October. It was announced yesterday that one of their players, forward/center Christian Wood, had a very successful surgery on his left knee. He may not be playing for the season's first several weeks, but team doctors will monitor the knee for the next eight weeks. The Lakers will ensure he is healthy before the second half of the season.
The injury came about during the second half of last season. He was out for several weeks then. Wood had also received surgery on the knee in March when he first got the injury. He missed many games and the playoffs. He thought he would be ready in time for the new season, but this is different. The surgery was performed at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. They are not sure if the second surgery will set him back more or if he will need to go to another surgery.
Woods will be out for several weeks, and this was not an ideal situation for the Lakers. Their opening night is on October 22 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, a team that hopes to have an upswing just like the Lakers. This is not the case, though. He will miss more games beyond that point, but he should be ready to go by the time the second half of the season rolls around.
Woods has been viewed as a great addition to the team. Several teams were looking to sign him, and the Lakers gave him a player's option. They got him to sign with their team. His first season with the Lakers may not have gone as planned, and when he was playing, he was often in and out of the rotation.
The season before, when he played with the Dallas Mavericks, he did great. When he signed with the Lakers, his stats had a slight downfall. His stats were decent but not great. He averaged 16.6 points and 7.3 rebounds. With the Lakers, he averaged 6.9 points and 5.1 rebounds in the 50 games that he played for them.
Woods missed the rest of the season due to injury. When Woods gets back on his feet again, he will be another great asset to the Lakers. Something for them to look forward to when he is finally healthy again. Woods has stated that he vows to stay healthy for the rest of the season. That will not happen for the first half of the season, but most likely the second half of the season.
