College World Series Day Three: Vols Dominate, Virginia Out, A Look at Day Four

Unlike the first two days, the third day of the College Baseball World Series didn’t have any walk-off victories or extra-inning thrillers. Both games played on Sunday weren’t super competitive, as both winners seemed to dominate the whole game. However, Monday’s slate of games looks to be the best set of games so far in this tournament. Let’s recap Sunday’s games and take a look at Monday’s.

Florida State 7, Virginia 3

Sparked by a four spot in the fifth inning, the Florida State Seminoles avoided elimination. Outfielder Jaime Ferrer was the difference maker in this game, blasting two home runs and knocking in four on the day. Florida State also got RBIs from Alex Lodise, James Tibbs, and Marco DingesCarson Dorsey threw a gem on the mound, hurling seven innings, allowing three runs, and striking out seven. This was Dorsey’s best start of the season, and it came at the right time. Florida State will look to continue to stay alive Tuesday.

Tennessee absolutely dominated North Carolina in Sunday night’s game. The Vols were the favorites in this game, but many fans expected this one to be a more competitive matchup than it was. Kavares Tears stayed hot with four RBIs including a huge three-run bomb. Dean Curley and Reese Chapman both knocked one in as well. Starter Alec Beaman threw five innings of one-run ball then Kirby Connell and Nate Snead each threw two scoreless to take it home. The Vols really look like the team to beat down the stretch here as they look to extend their winning streak on Tuesday. Now, let’s take a look at the games for day four.

Florida vs. NC State- 2 PM Eastern, ESPN

Looking to hold off elimination, both teams are going to be hungry to stay alive. Florida is coming off a one-run loss to Texas A&M Friday and NC State was walked off by Kentucky Friday as well, so both teams are coming into Monday’s game with a chip on their shoulder. Both teams are evenly matched, so expect a super tight game tomorrow. The Gators are slight favorites, with their moneyline currently set at -125, but NC State -105 could easily be the bet that chases.

Texas A&M vs Kentucky- 7 p.m. Eastern, ESPN

This is the game that many fans have been looking forward to. Both are top five nationally ranked and have been absolutely electric to start this tournament. This game has the potential to be one of the most exciting games of this entire tournament. The Aggies are currently -140 moneyline favorites, with the Wildcats coming in at +110. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if Kentucky continues this historic run tomorrow night.
