Commanders Up to Hire Veteran Defensive-Minded Head Coach Dan Quinn
It has been reported by multiple sources that Dan Quinn has agreed to a deal to become the next head coach of the Washington Commanders. Quinn in the past has been the Atlanta Falcons head coach, as well as the Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator. Commanders’ owner Josh Harris looks to turn the franchise in the right direction with the hiring of Quinn. Quinn came to prominence in the NFL with the Seahawks as the defensive coordinator in the 2013 and 2014 seasons. In his time with the Seahawks, he created one of the most feared defenses in NFL history “The Legion of Boom.” Quinn will look to bring his dominance on the defensive side to Washington who already has many budding stars.
Washington has failed to win the division title since 2020. Even then, they only went 7-9 which makes it hard to believe that they took home the division crown. Quinn in his last stint as head coach of the Falcons only took home a division title in one season out of the six that he was head coach. The hope is that he has grown as a head coach and leader in his time with Dallas; in order to lead to a more positive outcome for the Commanders in the coming years.
There are many holes to fill for the former Falcons head coach, starting with the questions at the quarterback position. Time will tell if the Commanders stick with their shaky 2023 starter Sam Howell or if they will look to the draft. Currently, the Commanders hold the second pick in the draft and all signs are pointing to them drafting Howell’s replacement. Pairing new head coach Dan Quinn, new GM Adam Peters and former Warriors executive Bob Myers with a rookie quarterback could be the refresh this franchise needs.
