Cowboys Shut Down All-Pro Wide Receiver for Remainder of 2024 Season

NFL

The Dallas Cowboys are ruling out wide receiver CeeDee Lamb for the remainder of the 2024 season. NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo broke the news on X by posting a screenshot from an email he received that confirmed the news. The email was from Scott Agulnek, Dallas Cowboys Director of Football Communications, which stated: “Additional examinations and scans this week on CeeDee Lamb's shoulder have determined that his injury has now progressed to the point that he will be listed as "Out" for the remaining two games of the season.” With this decision, Lamb will miss the last two games as the Cowboys look to focus on his recovery.

The three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver had been putting together a great season. Lamb compiled 101 receptions for 1,194 yards, both top-three in the entire NFL, to go along with six touchdowns in a successful campaign for a not-so-successful team in Arlington. The underwhelming Cowboys are going to finish third in the NFC East, a division that they won in two of the previous three seasons. Coming off of a season where he was selected as a first-team All-Pro, Lamb certainly didn’t disappoint since he was still playing like an elite receiver while sustaining a substantial injury.

Lamb injured an AC joint in his shoulder, which he’s been playing through since Week Nine. According to Agulnek, Lamb isn’t expected to require surgery and is expected to make a full recovery. That is good news for him and the Cowboys since they’ve been eliminated from the playoffs, so there’s not much reason to trot out an injured superstar player every week. It makes even less sense to do so when that injured player just signed a multi-year extension four months ago. Number 88 in the blue and white will be at AT&T Stadium until 2028, making $34 million per season thanks to his contract, which was signed exactly four months ago on August 26th.

Injuries have been the story of the season for the Cowboys. The team lost 2023 NFL MVP runner-up Dak Prescott the day after Veteran’s Day with a season-ending hamstring injury. Future Hall of Famer Zack Martin has also been out since Week 12 with an ankle injury. As if that wasn’t enough, the team shouldn’t forget that Trevon Diggs got placed on injured reserve five days ago.
