Eagles Outlast Bills in Overtime Thriller

NFL

While the Buffalo Bills have not been playing the best football as of late, they gave the Philadelphia Eagles their best game on Sunday afternoon, and it still wasn’t enough as the Eagles outlasted them in an overtime thriller 37-34 in Philadelphia. With this loss, the Eagles improved to 10-1 on the season and sit comfortably at the top of their NFC East division, the whole NFC conference, and the whole NFL. This loss brings the Bills record to a mediocre 6-6 on the season. While the Bills still sit second in their AFC East division the question everyone is asking right now is: Is this Buffalo team a team we will see in the postseason? I guess only time will tell, but next week the Bills need to take their bye week to figure things out as they have to play the Chiefs in Kansas City in two weeks and that will be anything but an easy game. The Eagles will stay home next week to take on the San Francisco 49ers in a game that will be sure to keep us all on the edge of our seats. Let’s take a look at how Philadelphia got this win.

The first points of this game would be scored by Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts as he ran in the end zone for a 1-yard touchdown at the end of the Eagles' second drive, and after kicker Jake Elliott made the extra point Philadelphia was up 7-0 with nearly one minute remaining in the first quarter. The Bills would also get their first points of the game as their kicker Tyler Bass knocked down a 48-yard field goal on their next drive. These three points would make the score of the game 7-3 and the Bills would get the ball back sooner than they expected as Hurts threw a pass that was intercepted as it was deflected into the hands of Bills linebacker Terrel Bernard. The Bills offense was able to capitalize from this great play by their defense as quarterback Josh Allen ran in the end zone for a 9-yard touchdown to make the score of the game 10-7 Buffalo. Both teams' offenses would make mistakes later in the second quarter as the Bills missed a field goal and the Eagles fumbled the football. However, the Bills were able to capitalize off of the Eagles turnover once again and score a touchdown again, as Allen found wide receiver Stefon Diggs for a 13-yard touchdown to give the Bills the lead 17-10 heading into the locker room.

The Bills kicking struggles in this game would continue as they missed another field goal early in the second half. The Eagles would get the ball off this missed opportunity by Buffalo and turn it into seven points as Hurt connected with wide receiver A.J. Brown for a 3-yard touchdown to make the score of the game 17-14. However, the Bills would extend their lead on their next drive as Allen ran into the end zone for a 16-yard touchdown to make the score of the game 24-14. The Eagles would go on to march down the field and slim down the Bills' lead to three points as Hurts found DeVonta Smith for a 15-yard touchdown. The Bills would then throw an interception during their next drive and the Eagles would take the lead as wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus caught a 29-yard touchdown pass from Hurts to give the Eagles the lead 28-24. The Bills would take the lead once more later in the fourth as Allen found wide receiver Gabe Davis for a seven-yard touchdown to make the score of the game 31-28. While Bills fans would be hopeful that Buffalo would be able to hold onto the lead and get the win, this would not be the case as Elliott would knock down a 59-yard field goal for Philadelphia to send the game to overtime.

The Bills offense would get the ball to start overtime and while they would set up a 40-yard field goal for Bass which he would knock down, it would not be enough as the Eagles scored a touchdown on their next drive. This touchdown was scored as Hurts ran into the end zone for a 12-yard touchdown to make the game 37-34. The second Hurts foot touched the inside of that end zone this game was over, and while the Bills gave the Eagles the best game they could’ve, it still wasn’t enough to get it done during Week Twelve.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts completed thirteen of the thirty-one passes that left his arm in the game, finishing with 200 passing yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. Running back D’Andre Swift had fourteen carries for 80 yards and Hurts added fourteen carries for 65 yards and two rushing touchdowns. Wide receiving DeVonta Smith had seven receptions for 106 receiving yards and one touchdown. Wide receivers A.J. Brown and Olamide Zaccheaus also both had receiving touchdowns in the game. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen completed twenty-nine of his fifty-one pass attempts in the game for a total of 339 passing yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. He also led the Bills in rushing yards, finishing with 81 yards and two rushing touchdowns. Wide receiver Gabe Davis had six receptions for 105 yards and a touchdown and wide receiver Stefon Diggs for six catches for 74 yards and a touchdown.
