Eagles vs. Jaguars Recap

NFL

In a game that almost slipped away from the Eagles, the team gathered composure to pull away the sixth victory of the season. Out of Philadelphia’s normal patterns, they actually played much better in the first half rather than the second. Going into halftime, Philadelphia was up 22 points, seemingly in the driver’s seat to control the rest of the game. A controversial Saquon Barkley fumble that should have been overturned gave Jacksonville momentum in the third quarter. It was certainly expected the Eagles would win by a greater margin, but a comeback attempt from Jacksonville kept the game close in the second half. All things considered, the Eagles stand at an ideal 6-2 record heading into Dallas next week.

For starters, it’s worth noting that Jalen Hurts has continued to play much better within the offense. He looks way more comfortable and has used his legs to extend plays quite nicely. Wide receiver A.J. Brown left the game in the third quarter and did not return. He left with a knee injury, and his status throughout the week will be monitored. DeVonta Smith took over in the fourth quarter, hauling in massive 46 and 25-yard receptions. His one-handed touchdown catch was one of the best of his career thus far. For next week against Dallas, the offense needs Brown imperatively. For Jalen Hurts, his performance also marks another game without a turnover. Saquon Barkley had a massive day on the ground, accumulating over 130 rush yards and having a viral backward hurdle. He stands as the second-leading rusher in the NFL. Rookie cornerback Cooper DeJean shined once again, having multiple pass breakups and showing further consistency in coverage. Although the second half was certainly on edge, the Eagles still had control in all critical moments. Previously scrutinized, linebacker Nakobe Dean has officially turned the page in the last month. His confidence is evident through his tackling, coverage, and rushes. His game-sealing interception also marks the first of his career. He has cemented his role in this defense. Next to Nakobe, Zack Baun looks to be the best addition to the defense this offseason. He is all over the field and continues to provide consistent outings every week.

It certainly has not been perfect, but the Eagles are 6-2 heading into a crucial stretch of the season. They are relatively healthy all things considered, and can now look to work towards clinching crucial divisional positioning. At this stage of the season, the divisional matchups against the Cowboys and Commanders will decide the destiny of this team. The identity seems to be growing gradually. Time will continue to tell what to expect from the Eagles in a pivotal stretch of the season upcoming.
