Electric Shooter Re-Signs with the Grizzlies

NBA

One of the NBA’s most efficient three-point shooters, Luke Kennard, will be staying with the Memphis Grizzlies on a one-year contract, worth $11 million. Since entering the league in the 2017 NBA Draft, the Duke product has shown that he can be one of the most lethal weapons from deep in the league. Last season, Luke Kennard shot 45% from three-point range, which ranked second-best in the league. With the second unit, Kennard has the ability to get the crowd going with one of his shots from the perimeter.

Throughout his eight-year career so far, Kennard has been with a handful of teams including the Pistons, Clippers, and Grizzlies. Throughout his career, he has averaged 10 points on only eight shots per game. His biggest defect is that he rarely shoots anything except for corner threes and his defense is limited. However, as far as catch-and-shoot guys go, he is one of the best. Additionally, he hasn’t been able to stay healthy the past few seasons, only playing in less than 40% of the Grizzlies games.

However, if Kennard can stay healthy, he can be a terrific perimeter threat with highly efficient shooting while not demanding the basketball that much. This allows him to play in concert with other guys on the floor. However, for his game to continue growing, he needs to become a more established playmaker with the basketball and also give more effort to the defensive end to help his team win. Additionally, if he took more shots, that would not only help the team's scoring production but also would take some of the load off of other players on the court.
