Emerging Center Signs New Deal with the Hurricanes

NHL

With his lightning-fast pace, center Jack Roslovic, who is only 27 years old, has already demonstrated the ability to develop into a dominant player in his position. However, Roslovic's performance last season was below average, with just nine goals in the regular season—his lowest total since 2018. The developing center, Roslovic, presents a dynamic skill set when everything is going well, which made him an appealing option for several teams this free agency despite the poor outcomes recently. As per Sportsnet Elliotte Friedman, the Carolina Hurricanes have agreed to sign Roslovic, with the terms yet to be reported, in an attempt to give him a chance at redemption.

The Winnipeg Jets selected the speedy center with the 25th selection in the first round of the 2015 NHL Draft. Roslovic committed to the Miami University RedHawks for the 2015–16 season after being drafted, and he finished with 10 goals, 16 assists, and 26 points. After seeing inconsistent playing time in his first two NHL seasons, Roslovic established himself as a mainstay in the lineup with the Jets in 2018, a season in which he scored nine goals. In his eight-year career, Roslovic has amassed 80 goals, 16 power-play goals, 141 assists, and 221 points. Roslovic played his last four seasons with the Columbus Blue Jackets before joining the Rangers at the trade deadline last season. It was during this time that he began to show promise as a scorer, recording his first 20-goal season in 2021 with 22 goals, 23 assists, and 45 points.

Following his trade from the Blue Jackets to the Rangers, Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider led a New York club that had emerged as the NHL's best team, and Roslovic was anticipated to have a significant influence as a top-line winger. Roslovic, however, struggled to establish any kind of rhythm within the Rangers lineup over the course of 35 games, both regular and postseason. He only managed three goals in the regular season, and things did not get much better in the playoffs, as he only managed two goals, one of which was an empty-net goal. Nevertheless, by choosing to acquire Roslovic, the Hurricanes are dedicated to realizing all of the potential that Roslovic has demonstrated in the past. With high hopes for the upcoming season, Roslovic will now have the chance to demonstrate what got him selected into the NHL once more.
