Every Award Winner at the 2024 NFL Honors

NFL

Since 2012, football fans from all over the world have gathered to watch in anticipation of who will win each award at the NFL Honors. After an incredible 2023 regular season, and just days before Super Bowl LVIII, we can observe, and congratulate the winners of each accolade. To some, there may be some surprises, but each player that won an award was rightfully deserving of receiving their recognition. Let’s look at everyone who took home an award at the 2024 NFL Honors.

Comeback Player of the Year - Joe Flacco

Quarterback Joe Flacco was not signed to any team during the offseason, preseason, and half of the regular season. It wouldn’t be until November 20th when Flacco signed with the Cleveland Browns. Just two weeks later he got his first start with the team, and during the 2023 regular season, he became the only player to throw 250-plus yards and multiple touchdown passes in his first five games with a new team. When Joe started, Cleveland went 4-0, clinching the fifth seed in the AFC playoff picture, but fell to the Houston Texans in the AFC Wild Card Game 45-14. In five starts with the Browns, the 39-year-old quarterback had 123 completions for 1,616 yards with 13 touchdown passes and eight interceptions. It’s safe to say if the former Super Bowl MVP decides to hang it up, he can on a good note.

Coach of the Year - Kevin Stefanski

Since returning to the NFL in 1999, the Cleveland Browns have only made the playoffs three times. Two of those times were under head coach Kevin Stefanski. After putting up an 11-6 record and clinching the fifth seed in the AFC playoff picture, Stefanski was named Coach of the Year for the second time in his career. Back at the NFL Honors in 2020, Kevin won his first Coach of the Year Award when he helped Cleveland nail an 11-5 record. This Browns team suffered through numerous injuries from every position but still found a way to achieve success and make another postseason appearance. Cleveland became the first team since 1987 to start five different quarterbacks in a single season. We could only imagine if this team was fully healthy how capable would they be of competing for a Super Bowl?

Defensive Rookie of the Year - Will Anderson Jr.

The Houston Texans drafted defensive end Will Anderson Jr with the third overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Since coming to Houston, Will has completely changed the dynamic of this team’s defense. In 15 total games during his rookie season, Anderson Jr. had 45 combined tackles, 29 being solo tackles, and 16 assisted tackles. He tackled for a loss of yardage ten times, with seven sacks, and one pass deflection. The 2023 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and his teammate C.J. Stroud are the fourth pair of teammates to win Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year in the same season.

Offensive Rookie of the Year - C.J. Stroud

While there were plenty of great offensive rookies campaigning for this award, no one deserved it more than Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud. With Stroud leading the team, Houston recorded a 10-7 record winning the AFC South Division for the first time since 2019. Although they had a crushing defeat against the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Divisional Round, this Texans team has a bright future ahead of them. In 15 starts during his rookie season, C.J. completed 319 passes for 4,108 yards with 23 touchdowns and five interceptions. His 4,108 passing yards are the third most ever by a rookie quarterback. The Texans’ second overall pick during the 2023 NFL Draft is looking to potentially give this team their first Super Bowl appearance.

Defensive Player of the Year - Myles Garrett

For years, Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett has always been in the running for this particular award but has never actually won. Well, that has all changed, yesterday Garrett won his first Defensive Player of the Year Award after another incredible season leading the charge for this Browns defense. Myles played in 16 games, having 42 combined tackles, 33 of those being solo tackles, and nine assisted tackles. He also tackled for a loss 17 times, with 14 sacks and three pass deflections. The 2023 Defensive Player of the Year will look to continue being in the conversation for this award year in and year out and hopefully capture a few more of these accolades before his career is over.

Offensive Player of the Year - Christian McCaffrey

Running back Christian McCaffrey played his first full year with the San Francisco 49ers, and during the 2023 NFL regular season, McCaffrey had one of the most productive seasons in NFL history. Christian led the league in scrimmage yards, scrimmage touchdowns, rushing yards, first downs, and 10-plus-yard runs. In 16 games played, McCaffrey had 272 rushing attempts for 1,459 rushing yards, with 13 rushing touchdowns. He also had 564 receiving yards with seven touchdown catches. He’ll look to prove why he’s the 2023 Offensive Player of the Year this Sunday at Super Bowl LVIII.

Most Valuable Player - Lamar Jackson

There is no surprise, after a magical season with the Baltimore Ravens, quarterback Lamar Jackson has won his second career MVP Award. Jackson now becomes the fifth player to win multiple MVP Awards in their first six seasons in the league. He’s also the eleventh player in NFL history to win multiple MVP Awards. He led the Ravens to the best record in the NFL this season at 13-4. Lamar played in 16 games, having 307 completions for 3,678 passing yards, 24 touchdown passes, and seven interceptions. In 148 attempts, the two-time MVP had 821 rushing yards with five rushing touchdowns. It’s unfortunate the Ravens could not find any luck during the AFC Championship Game, otherwise, the 2023 NFL MVP could be playing for a Super Bowl championship.
