Five-Time Pro Bowler Signs with the Bills

NFL

In one of the biggest NFL free agency moves this year, especially on defense, Joey Bosa has signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Bills for $12.6 million. Bosa, widely regarded as a top pass-rusher in the NFL, makes for a great addition for their defense. The 29-year-old has been an NFL Pro Bowler five times, including this past season. He was also the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2016. He has spent all nine of his NFL seasons so far with the Los Angeles Chargers.

This past season with the Chargers, Bosa racked up 17 solo tackles, 22 total tackles, and five sacks. Bosa played in 14 games, starting in nine. Throughout his NFL tenure, he has 343 total tackles, 252 solo tackles, and 72 sacks. He has forced 17 fumbles, while recovering four. Despite all of this, the Chargers released him on March 6th.

Bosa was due to earn a $12.36 million roster bonus on March 12th, so Los Angeles made the move now to save $25.36 million towards the salary cap. Last year, Bosa took a pay cut to avoid being released. Despite Bosa’s struggles with injuries, the Chargers finished the regular season with their 11-6 record before losing to the Houston Texans in the Wild Card Round during the playoffs. Joey only played 432 snaps last season for Los Angeles, so while injuries are prevalent in Bosa’s career, the Bills are undoubtedly receiving a great talent.
