Five-Year Pro Offensive Guard Resigns to the Vikings
Since being drafted in 2019, five-year pro-offensive guard Dalton Risner has played for both the Denver Broncos and the Minnesota Vikings. Within the first two weeks of this year’s NFL regular season, Dalton was signed by the Vikings. Throughout his career, Risner has only missed six games due to injury. With Minnesota this past season, the Vikings failed to repeat what they captured in 2022, and missed the playoffs entirely with a 7-10 record. Now a free agent, Risner agreed to return to the Vikings on a one-year deal.
Dalton Risner played all four years of college ball at Kansas State University. The future five-year pro offensive guard played 50 out of 51 games with the Wildcats. From 2016-2018, Risner was named to the First-Team All-Big 12. He was also named to the First-Team All-American, and Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2018. During the 2019 NFL Draft, Dalton was selected by the Denver Broncos as the 41st selection in the second round. He was named the starting left guard as a rookie for the Broncos and held that position for four seasons.
The Minnesota Vikings offensive line had a tough job protecting their quarterbacks during the 2023 season. They ranked 22nd in the league allowing 47 sacks on the four different quarterbacks they started. Risner with the Vikings must show he’s capable of protecting his quarterback on every single play. Hopefully, 2024 will be the first time we see the five-year pro-offensive guard make a Pro Bowl.
