Former Alabama Superstars Team Up
It was reported on Saturday that the Denver Broncos have traded former Alabama superstar and first-round pick Jerry Jeudy to the Cleveland Browns. The Broncos will receive a fifth and sixth-round pick in return. This trade comes after the Broncos also announced they planned to release quarterback Russell Wilson. While it was once thought by many that Jeudy and Wilson were the future for the Broncos now they will be without both.
The addition of Jeudy is huge for the Browns who last year struggled overall to get open on offense aside from star Amari Cooper. Adding Jeudy will not only spread out the offense even more, but his presence could finally bring the best out of Deshaun Watson. While Jeudy hasn't been a star by any means since entering the NFL the Browns must view him as having untapped potential. Coming out of Alabama Jeudy was one of the highest-regarded receiver prospects in a long time with an extensive route tree and lightning-quick cuts in his routes. If the Browns get that version of Jeudy opposing defenses will have a very hard time stopping the duo of Alabama alumni in him and Cooper. The one issue with Jeudy though is his ability to stay healthy in his career so far, he has only played a full season one time.
For the Broncos their next task is to find someone who is able to fill Jeudy’s past role. The biggest question as of right now though is if that player is already on the roster. The Broncos this past year drafted wide receiver Marvin Mims in the 2nd round, Mims showed lots of promise this last season and now with Jeudy gone could step up even more. On top of that, Courtland Sutton will most likely be back with the Broncos next year as he still has two years left on his contract. Sutton has had a successful career so far with the Broncos and shouldn’t miss a beat even with a new quarterback at the helm.
With the departure of Jeudy, this could finally be the season where Sutton cements himself as one of the best in the NFL. Lastly, some people may forget but longtime Bronco Tim Patrick also just resigned on a one-year deal. Patrick as of recent has dealt with injury after injury yet when healthy has been a solid weapon. He has not played since 2021 however that season he put up a great stat line for him and had over 700 yards. The Broncos must have still seen that same flash in him when they re-signed him. Recent moves by the Broncos could signify a big role for Patrick in the offense. Overall, this was a great trade for both teams overall as the Broncos were almost looking for a reset and still had solid depth at the position while the Browns desperately needed one more weapon to reach the next level.
