Former All-NBA Veteran Signs with the Kings in Sign-and-Trade Deal

NBA

Entering the 16th year of his career, DeMar DeRozan has agreed to terms with the Sacramento Kings on a three-year deal for 70 million in a sign-and-trade deal which moved Harrison Barnes to the San Antonio Spurs, then Chris Duarte, two second-round picks, and cash considerations to the rebuilding Chicago Bulls. DeRozan has been a model of consistency his entire career and looks to bring his veteran presence to help a Kings team. He has been a 20+ point scorer in 11 straight seasons, earning him six All-Star games and three All-NBA seasons. After a three-year stint playing for both San Antonio and Chicago, DeRozan moves to Sacramento, looking to make his first championship run.

Chicago’s move to bring in DeRozan in the summer of 2021 was a controversial move when it took place. However, DeRozan proved he could still be the focal point of a team. The main downfall of the team was injuries to teammates Zach LaVine and Lonzo Ball. Back when the Bulls had a full lineup in early January of 2022, Chicago was tied for first in the Eastern Conference and was the hottest team entering the All-Star Break. After Ball never took the floor again that season, the Bulls were never able to test their strengths with a full-force playoff push.

During that time, DeRozan put together an incredible year and was an early candidate for the MVP award. He looks to replicate a similar performance as a member of the Kings. Alongside De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, DeRozan has a new pairing to earn himself playoff success. Entering next year at age 35, he has limited time in the league as an All-Star caliber player. DeRozan aims to make his new home the perfect fit for a late-career resume booster.
