Former EuroLeague Guard Joins 76ers: What His Signing Means for Their Playoff Hopes

NBA

Things for the Philadelphia 76ers just keep getting better and better. They have gained another asset to their team, and next season may look a little bit better for them. It seems that they have been looking for a missing piece to the puzzle, and it looks like they have finally gotten it. American basketball shooting guard Lonnie Walker IV and the 76ers have come to terms on a deal that will have him playing in the area for a while. For the next two years, he will earn a total of three million for all the time he will spend with them.

Walker, 26, spent this season playing for Zalgiris Kaunas in the EuroLeague. It is the smaller league that is just a step below the NBA. In his current deal, he did have an NBA-out, which meant he could step out if he had wanted to. He's now going to go into his seventh season playing in the NBA. Before this season, he did go into training camp with the Boston Celtics back in October. However, he did not make the final cut for the team's roster for the season.

With Walker joining the team, this will help them fix their current disappointing blowout of a season. It will give the 76ers some athleticism and something more to work with. The 76ers can make a turnaround using Walker, among others that they are planning on bringing to the team. Walker will be useful to Philadelphia as they won’t just have to worry about whether Joel Embiid or if Paul George is going to play or if they are going to sit out with injury.

Walker has played well in all aspects. His current stats are at 10 points, a 38.4 shooting percentage from a three-point average in 17.4 minutes per game. This was only with the Brooklyn Nets last season. He has beforehand played for other teams such as the San Antonio Spurs when he was drafted back in the 2018 NBA Draft. Walker should do just fine with the 76ers. He has been back and forth with several different teams and has had practice in many other areas. He should be able to make them a little better than they currently are. The team currently stands a little behind 10th place behind the Chicago Bulls for a spot in the Play-In Tournament. They are also decently behind the Detroit Pistons if they have any hopes of landing a playoff spot at all. However, Walker can step in and help fix that for the future.
