Former First-Round Pick Eyes Potential Move to the Giants

NFL

The quarterback rumors just keep swirling around in the NFL around the Giants’ locker room. They are definitely in the hunt to find their next franchise quarterback. They have already released both Drew Lock and Tim Boyle into free agency. Tommy DeVito, on the other hand, has become an exclusive rights free agent. It simply means the Giants and only the Giants have the power to offer him a one-year contract for a veteran quarterback salary. However, as the Giants work to figure out who will fill the position, one former first-round, number-one overall pick has already expressed interest in stepping in.

Jameis Winston, one of the oldest quarterbacks currently playing in the NFL, besides Aaron Rodgers, has clearly stated that he would like to join the Giants. He would be great there. The veteran quarterback managed to pull his current team, the Browns, out of a rut, still having a decent season. He knew how to make things happen on the field despite them ending on a 3-14 season. Winston would be a great fit to fill the position. Last season, he threw the ball for 2,121 yards, had 13 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in total for the 2024-25 season alone. The Giants would definitely have something to work with, and he would be able to help the young team build upon what they have now. He would also bring Malik Nabers a little more up to par than he is now.

The Giants will most likely have DeVito again, and they are going to need more than just one to two more quarterbacks this season. Even if the Giants do draft a new quarterback during this year's draft, there is a chance that they may not start if the Giants do pick up Winston. Very few young quarterbacks around the league started last season. It would be a good choice on the Giants’ part, with him being older. The Giants need a mix and not just a young team but a team that can build off of what they have got for now, and they can add the bigger assets in.
