Former Hawks, Bucks Coach Becomes Next Suns Head Coach

NBA

A day after head coach Frank Vogel was fired from the Phoenix Suns. The team has decided to go in a different direction as they hired former Hawks, and Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer as their new head coach. Budenholzer is most known for leading the 2021 Milwaukee Bucks to an NBA championship over the Suns, a team consisting of Chris Paul, Devin Booker, and Deandre Ayton. This team was severely disappointing during the playoffs as they were swept by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Budenholzer must lead the charge for the Suns who now have to manage a team with three high-caliber superstars in Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal. He also must bring this team deep into the playoffs each season he’s there as the Suns do not have a first-round draft pick until 2031. Phoenix's upper management is banking on their three stars to bring a championship home to the desert state. Budenholzer is well-valued, well-liked, and experienced in these kinds of difficult tasks. However, it’s a risk the championship-winning coach is willing to take.

It will be intriguing to see what takes place down in Phoenix for the next couple of seasons. If this team can win a championship, it will be a gamble for the ages this franchise’s higher management took in order to secure their first-ever NBA championship. What does a championship say about the legacy of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, or even their new head coach Mike Budenholzer? Can this team win it all or will this franchise take a miserable leap down to the bottom of the Western Conference in a few years?
