Former MVP Inks New Deal

NBA

It has been reported that veteran point guard Russell Westbrook has picked up his four-million-dollar player option with the Los Angeles Clippers. This new contract comes after his historically bad playoff series against the Mavericks. In the series Westbrook was nowhere near the player he is expected to be even at this point of his career. He failed to make any real positive impact on the series, only playing nine minutes in the elimination game.

While his final games of the season were a major disappointment he did still have a good amount of solid games in the regular season. For Westbrook his days as a starter may be over in the NBA however coming off the bench he can be a major weapon for the Clippers. If there is even a small part of the former MVP remaining he can provide incredible all-around play. Beyond the court, Westbrook also offers incredible leadership that you can't put a price on making him at this point in his career still desired heavily. This season Westbrook only put together 11 points per game. However when you look deeper into the stats you see that he shot better than his career average from the floor and still had a 16 per 36 minutes.

This addition will be huge for the Clippers as the former MVP has lots left to prove after this past year with the team. Pairing him back with Kawhi Leonard could be dangerous for the league. His competitive spirit on the court is also something that cannot be taught. He is someone who will never give up on a play and is always going 100 miles per hour. Beyond basketball, as a whole, he will also be a huge addition to the city of Los Angeles. Westbrook strives to build bonds with the community and is always hosting events such as meet and greets and fundraisers. Overall adding the former MVP back to the Clippers roster is a steal for even this late in his career.
