Former Two-Time All-Pro Inks New Deal

NFL

It has been reported by multiple sources that former Titan and Eagle Kevin Byard has signed a two-year deal worth 15 million with the Chicago Bears. This comes after Byard was cut by the Eagles in February after only ten games into his tenure with the team. The whole Eagles secondary in the second half of the season struggled immensely, but Byard still showed many flashes of his old self. It is believed he was released due to his heavy cap hit making him a cap casualty.

Before being traded to the Eagles at this past year's trade deadline the two-time all-pros made a career for himself with the Titans. In only his second year in the league, Byard put his face on the map with an eight-interception season which led the league. This also included a three-interception game against the Browns. From that point on Byard was a star in the NFL. He would go on to be a leader on a tough Titans defense for years, contributing 27 interceptions for the team. However, once the Titans started their youth movement and the championship window was ending, they found it was best to find him a new home where he could have a chance at a Superbowl.

For the Bears, Byard can hopefully become the player and leader he once was with the Titans. While his speed and agility may not be there anymore, he can read a defense better than most safeties and his football knowledge is off the charts. If this was three years ago, we may be talking about this being the biggest signing of free agency. Byard has faced an uphill climb his entire career coming out of a small school in Middle Tennessee and not even starting his rookie season. Making it most likely no challenge for him to learn a new system and contribute with a chip on his shoulder.
