Former Two-Time Cy Young Award Winner Signs with the Dodgers

MLB

After one season with the San Francisco Giants, former San Diego Padres and Tampa Bay Rays left-hander Blake Snell has signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The deal is for a reported 182 million over five years. After signing a shorter contract in 2024, Snell secured a much more permanent deal, now being locked down with the Dodgers for five more seasons. This is a much-needed move for the Dodgers as it takes care of their need for their starting pitching and securing their status as World Series contenders for the next few seasons.

After signing a contract with the Giants late into 2024 Spring training, Blake Snell got off to a horrible start to the season. Despite this, Snell was able to bounce back tremendously and finished the season as one of the best starters in the National League, proving to be worth the money. Snell was able to finish the year with five wins, three losses, a 3.12 earned run average, 145 strikeouts, and a complete-game no-hitter. Although the 20 starts and 104 innings are less than a team may desire, these numbers are in large part due to Snell’s decision to sign a contract so late.

Blake Snell marks a huge improvement for the Los Angeles pitching staff as they enter the 2025 campaign. Snell, who will be 32 by the time the season begins, has plenty of great years ahead of him as a pitcher. Snell is only one of seven all-time pitchers to have won Cy Young awards in both the American and National League and is one of only 22 pitchers in history to win the award multiple times. In addition to this, the former Giants left-hander also leads Major League Baseball all-time in strikeouts per nine innings at an unbelievable 11.2. For all of these reasons, Blake Snell and the Dodgers make a great pair as each of them looks forward to a successful 2025 season.
