Four Players the Cowboys Would Hate to Lose During Free Agency
The Dallas Cowboys have had a depressing season up to this point. Riddled with injuries and drama, there have at least been a few bright spots on the team. Four players have each stepped up big for this Dallas team. They brought leadership and talent the Cowboys have not seen for years and have shown what it means to be a Dallas Cowboy. However, for Dallas to keep these four players, it all comes down to a price.
Osa Odighizuwa
Osa Odighizuwa, who was a third-round pick back in 2021 from the University of UCLA, has been a key player for this Mike Zimmer defense. Recording over four sacks and 40 combined tackles, Odighizuwa’s pass-rush ability has been integral to the way Dallas plays. His play has been able to attract opposing players towards himself, freeing up other pass rushers for the Cowboys. Odighizuwa has finally begun to be that second weapon on the defensive line next to Micah Parsons, and it is giving Dallas a reason to sign him.
Chauncey Golston
Chauncey Golston, in his fourth year, has finally started to make his mark for this Dallas defense. The defensive end from Iowa has filled in for longtime star DeMarcus Lawrence and has not looked back. His three sacks and 43 total tackles are only the start for Golston. His run-stopping ability has massively improved from previous years. Paired with his pass rush, Golston has been a surprise for Dallas. With signs pointing to Lawrence not returning for the rest of the season, Golston will continue to have the chance to prove why he is an important player for the Dallas Cowboys.
Rico Dowdle
Rico Dowdle has been a staple of this Cowboys offense in recent weeks. He ranks second in rushing yards since Week Nine, having 485 yards, only trailing Saquon Barkley. His success rate per run ranks first in the NFL at 58.8 percent, averaging five yards a carry. The running back position for Dallas after prime Ezekiel Elliott has been lackluster; however, Dowdle this season has given the position life. His performances are showing Dallas to bring him back.
Jourdan Lewis
The savvy eight-year veteran from Michigan, Jourdan Lewis, has continued to prove why he is one of the best slot corners in the NFL. Throughout Lewis' time in Dallas, he has been a key figure in the locker room. Being able to guide other corners like Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland has been key for their development. Lewis also shows what it means to play for the Cowboys, never backing down and always one to take pride in playing for the star.
