Four-Time NBA Champion Re-Signs Enormous Deal with the Lakers

NBA

Back in 2018, four-time MVP and champion LeBron James signed a deal with the Los Angeles Lakers. Since wearing the gold and purple, LeBron has won an NBA Championship back in 2020, and became the NBA’s all-time leading scorer during the 2022-2023 NBA season, passing the legendary Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Now at the tail-end of his career at 39 years of age, LeBron is looking for a final opportunity to show why he’s perhaps the greatest of all time. Today, it was just announced this extraordinary Hall of Fame four-time NBA champion has re-signed a two-year deal for over 100 million dollars with the Lakers.

This past season, LeBron helped the Los Angeles Lakers defeat the Indiana Pacers in the NBA’s first-ever In-Season Tournament. He also became the first NBA player to obtain over 40,000 career points.  Although LeBron and the Lakers did not go deep into the playoffs for another championship run, the team did draft his son Bronny James with the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. Before the four-time NBA champion signed, he told Los Angeles he was willing to take a pay cut to get more valuable players on the roster. After a few days with no major free agents signing with the Lakers, LeBron instead took a full payday being paid out 52 million a year. This would most likely be his last contract before he retires.

Last season, the four-time NBA champion played in 71 games. In 35 minutes a night, he averaged about 26 points, seven rebounds, eight assists, a steal, and a block a night. Even almost being 40 years of age, LeBron has certainly shown he’s the most conditioned athlete the NBA has ever seen. It’s going to be interesting to see where the Lakers stack up in a grueling Western Conference.
