Get To Know Your Rookies: All about Jack Doohan
The fourth race of the 2025 Formula 1 season in Bahrain is only a day away, but that does not mean you can’t get to know more of your rookies. Jack Doohan, from Gold Coast, Australia, is the second driver for the BWT Alpine Formula 1 Team. He is the son of the five-time Grand Prix Motorcycle Champion, Mick Doohan. The 22-year-old driver began karting at the age of nine and was gifted his kart by the legendary Michael Schumacher. He then went on to win multiple national titles and graduated to junior Formula back in 2018.
The new Alpine driver made a great start in his early career in the Formula 4 British Championship, finishing as runner-up in the 2019-2020 Formula 3 Asian Championship. With this talent, he made his move to the FIA Formula 3 in 2020. Doohan then advanced, competing in the FIA Formula 2. He attained several wins in his 2022 and 2023 races with Virtuosi, then finished third. With the recognition he rightfully deserved, he became a member of the Alpine Academy in 2022, as he was previously a member of the Red Bull Junior Team. He served as the reserve driver for the Alpine racing team for 2023 and 2024. His debut in Formula 1 was at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2024, replacing Esteban Ocon. The Australian was promoted to the seat for the 2025 season, as a driving partner to Pierre Gasly, completely replacing Ocon.
As for the results of his Formula 1 career so far, he has had a bit of a bumpy start. In the season-opening race in Australia, he qualified fourteenth in his home race. He crashed on the opening lap due to the wet conditions. During the Chinese Grand Prix, he had received a 10-second penalty for the print and main race, finishing in twentieth and thirteenth places. He was also in a collision with rookie Gabriel Bortoleto and forced Isack Hadjar off the track. During the second free practice during the Japanese Grand Prix, he did not close the drag reduction system, DRS, flat out on turn one. He spun into the barriers, causing him to qualify nineteenth. During the race in Japan, he moved up four places and finished in fifteenth place. For the race in Bahrain, Doohan is starting in eleventh place, but the hope is for a better ending to this race than the first three of the season.
