Giants 2025 Vision: Why Trading for a Seasoned QB Is the Key to Contending

NFL

The New York Giants have been working on their quarterback position, and they are going to be for a while. There has been a constant state of rumors that have been swirling around since their season ended. They currently hold the number three pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, with the Tennessee Titans and the Cleveland Browns sitting in front of them with the first and second overall draft picks. However, the rumor that has been tossed up into the air is that the Giants may want to make a trade with the Atlanta Falcons and bring in veteran starting quarterback Kirk Cousins. This could be a big change for the Giants, given everything they are currently dealing with.

The Giants may want to pursue this four-time Pro Bowler. Cousins has been around the block a few times. He was selected in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders. He had several great seasons with them, even leading them to the playoffs twice. Shortly after, he signed a deal with the Minnesota Vikings, where he also took them to the playoffs twice. The way that this deal would work out would be that the Giants would trade one of their defensemen, such as cornerback Cordale Flott, and the Giants would acquire the veteran quarterback. Currently, at the moment, the Giants most likely will not land Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders, two of the top choices that the organization and many of their fans had wanted to fulfill their quarterback needs.

It would be a change for the Giants because of how well Cousins has performed on the field in his career. He has appeared in 164 games; his percentage of passes completed is up to 66.9 percent, and he has also thrown for over 42,000 yards over his 13-year career. He has also had games where he has been able to throw over 200 yards per game. The combination of Cousins and the Giants’ top wide receiver, Malik Nabers, would result in a more potent offense. The Giants will rebuild, and it will look good for them next season. Cousins does have a possibility to look like the Giants’ next Eli Manning if they do decide to take him on.

However, the Giants need to keep their options open. This is just one strategic move that would provide a substantial benefit, especially considering Cousins’ extensive NFL experience. This would be the best scenario possible if the Giants can’t get exactly what they are looking for. It would be a good deal for them, and it would be something that Giants general manager Joe Schoen needs to jump on. He can’t sit back until April and wait until something happens at the draft, by then, it would be too late.
