Giants and Browns Takeaways

NFL

The New York Football Giants had a fantastic time in Ohio on Sunday for Week Three. The Giants, seemingly at most, looked like they had it together while they were on the field. Very few mistakes were made between the offensive, defensive, and special teams. Fans have been waiting for something like this for the last three weeks. The Giants beat the Browns with a final score of 21-15. Here are a few takeaways from this game that the Giants can move forward with.

Daniel Jones and Malik Nabers were inseparable during today's game. The two offensive players showcased their growing chemistry. The Giants scored 21 points in the first half, and Jones and Nabers scored two touchdowns. This proved to be enough to secure today's win. Jones came into this game at the bottom of the completion percentage. He was very efficient and had no turnovers during this game, marking a massive development for him during this make-or-break season. Jones completed 24 of his 34 pass attempts for 236 yards and two touchdowns.

On the other hand, Nabers has been explosive on the field for the last three weeks of the regular season. Nabers recorded 78 receiving yards on eight receptions and caught two touchdown passes. This is the second game this rookie has made a touchdown for this team. He has become the first player in NFL history to record 20 reception pass-rushing games against the Browns. The Browns' offensive line is a mess, and the Giants took a significant advantage by putting a ton of pressure on Deshaun Watson. New York recorded eight sacks, their most in a game since 2016 when they played the Browns.

In addition, the Giants recorded five tackles for a loss and a forced fumble that was recorded later in the fourth quarter. Their top performers were both Dexter Lawrence and Brian Burns. The two combined to record six tackles, six quarterback hits, three sacks, and two tackles for a loss. Burns also added two deflections. Burns was questionable in this weekend's game with a groin injury, but he made it in and had his best game as a Giant.

The run defense was also much better in this week's game. The Giants could not make the stops in that game with the Commanders, but the Giants held Cleveland at bay for 69 yards on the ground for an average of 3.8 yards per carry. It didn't allow them to score a rushing touchdown. The top performers were Micah McFadden and Cordale Flott. They recorded a team-high of nine tackles. They had one for a loss, a much better performance than last week. McFadden added six tackles to the team's 70 for the day. He also recorded 0.5 sacks and three quarterback hits.

Indeed, the Giants had a great game today. They did great by preventing the Browns from getting down the field. They will be returning to the field on Thursday to take on Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys. It’s going to be a quick turnaround to come right back home to the Meadowlands, but hopefully, the Giants can keep their performance up. Seeing how they take on this next team on their schedule will be interesting.
