Giants and Jets Final Preseason Game Preview

NFL

The New York Giants have their work cut out this coming week. After last week's devastating loss to the Houston Texans, which ended in a final score of 28 to 10, they have a lot to do before this coming week's last and final preseason game. As hard as it is to believe, the NFL has nearly ended its preseason. The Giants will be taking on the Jets this coming week, and they have much to do before then.

The Giants only have three practices left, and one this week will be a joint practice with the New York Jets. The two teams have been playing each other every summer since 1969 and have played 51 times. The only time they did not play was in 2020 during the pandemic. The Jets lead this series with a total of 28-25-1. The tie took place in 1972.

The Giants will decide who will make the official starting roster for the season this coming week. They currently have a 90-man roster, but they will determine who makes the cut and who doesn't. Several players stand on the line, but decisions have yet to be made. There will be multiple things to consider during this coming week's game. The quarterback situation, the offensive line, and the defensive line. Each has something they need to straighten out to push them to be ready for the season.

Daniel Jones returned last week in his first debut since his injury last year. Jones has had up-and-down practices, looking slightly sloppy, but he managed to pull it back together. However, he threw two interceptions during the previous week's game. Jones is still a little rusty and will need more practice before the regular season. There has not been any word from coach Brian Daboll about whether he will play in this weekend's game. Jones completed 11 out of the 18 passes he threw for 138 yards. He did not make any touchdowns.

On the other hand, the current backup quarterback, Tommy DeVito, took over for the second half of the game. DeVito managed to help the team move down the field a bit further than Jones did. However, he also did not show his best. He completed 10 out of 19 pass attempts for 75 yards. He rushed down the field once and had one fumble. If DeVito starts this coming weekend's game, he should be able to do much better than he did against the Texans.

The offensive line looked solid in last weekend's games. They were able to move the ball down the field. Even though they struggled, they could make things happen on the field. If they played the way they did last week, making ends meet with the ball, they should have no problems playing against the Jets.

The defensive line for this week needs to look more intact than last. During last week's game, only three people made things happen. Brian Burns, Dexter Lawrence, and Kayvon Thibodeaux made several explosive plays, but the defensive line kept letting plays get past them. Hopefully, they can change this in this weekend's game.

If the Giants can pull it together for this weekend's game against the Jets, they should have no issue getting a win. The offensive line needs to play the way they did in last weekend's game, but it needs to be better. The defensive line needs to play harder than they did and ensure they are solid when making stops on the field. Practices will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week. On Thursday, the Giants will have their joint practice with the Jets before Saturday's game. Final decisions will then be made as to who will play this weekend and who will be starting for the regular season. The Giants and Jets will play this weekend at MetLife Stadium starting at 7:30 P.M.
