Giants Cut Defensive Tackle in Roster Reshuffle

NFL

The Giants have been very busy this week reworking their team. They have struggled to get by this season, and it was time to make some roster moves. Some of them may be decent, and some of them may be terrible. The Giants focused mainly on the defensive line. Today, they announced that they waived Carlos “Boogie” Basham.

Basham, 26, has been with the Giants for the last two seasons. He hasn’t gotten much time to be on the field. He has played 14 games; between both seasons, he has recorded 12 tackles on the defensive line. He had five solo tackles last season and helped with six assists. This season, so far, he has only had one assist. He has not played in any games this season except for one. They removed him from the active roster and signed off on bringing Armon Watts to the team.

Basham has been quiet while playing with the Giants. He was signed to the team after several years with the Buffalo Bills. Joe Schoen, the Bills' General manager at the time, scouted him. Basham came with him a few years after Joe Schoen moved to become the General Manager of the Giants and work with head coach Brian Daboll in a trade deal in 2023.

There is a chance that he may not get signed to another team. If this is the case, he may be welcomed back or become a free agent altogether. However, he will be placed on the Giants practice squad if he doesn’t go to free agency. In the meantime, with Basham's cuts, Tomon Fox will most likely take his place, and possibly Watts. Both have stats that are a little bit bigger than Basham's. Fans will likely see these two on the field in the upcoming game in week eight against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Giants are struggling, and the roster cuts may continue to happen. Fans will see many players shuffled off and onto the team in the coming weeks. The Giants have many decisions between the offensive, defensive, and special teams to determine what they will do. It’s a process, but hopefully, things will get better for them following this cut.
