Giants Emerge as Top Landing Spot for Four-Time Pro Bowler
The New York Giants are having a super busy offseason. There are rumors about the Giants flying both in and out the door simultaneously. Some believe that the Giants may sign Sam Darnold, make a trade for the Atlanta Falcons, Kirk Cousins, pick up Tee Higgins from the Cincinnati Bengals, and other big names from around the league. However, all of these names mentioned are current powerhouses on the field. The latest rumor that’s swirling through New York is the thought that the Giants may take a swing at picking up Stefon Diggs from the Houston Texans.
He would be an automatic asset to the team despite everything that he has going on. He played great when he played for the Buffalo Bills and continued his trend when he came to the Texans before last season. The Giants would have a matching set to go along with Malik Nabers. It would be perfect and the two would make a difference for the Giants next season. However, there are some setbacks if the Giants do decide to go through with picking Diggs up.
Currently, Diggs has been out for the season with a torn ACL that occurred in Week Eight when the Texans took on the Indianapolis Colts. It left the team and himself with many things to think about. Since the season came to an end for the Texans, Diggs will now enter into free agency. Things have been quiet but once he comes off injury, there is a possibility that he may have multiple offers coming his way.
Before the injury occurred and there were questions on his future, he managed 496 yards and three touchdowns on 47 receptions. He was and still is a top player and it showed his elite ability despite the limited playing time he had this past season. He was not huge in Buffalo but he grew to something better in Houston. He has become one of the league's most dynamic receivers since then. He is the guy that C.J. Stroud has looked toward since they took him onto their roster.
The Giants have been cycling through options but they haven’t come to a halt as to who they want to fill as their second-best receiver behind Nabers. They are lacking in that area despite Nabers being the future star for the Giants. Adding Diggs will fill that gap and give other team’s defenses something more to worry about and not just Nabers anymore or even Tyrone Tracy Jr. Diggs would be a complement to Nabers because of the experience that he has and he will make the offensive core more respectable to other teams. He would also provide the safety to a young quarterback, whoever that may be next season.
Diggs will just have to bounce back from his injury during the offseason. It’s no small task, especially for his age of 31. It’s a wonder what next season will look like for him, sometimes they bounce back and sometimes they struggle. However, Diggs shouldn’t have a problem though. This is definitely something that the Giants should jump on if the opportunity presents itself.
