Giants Future Quarterback Possibilities
Certain areas of the Giants franchise are uncertain. Staring all the way to the front office straight down to the team itself. The biggest uncertainty that currently remains with the Giants is the quarterback position. The Giants are burning through quarterbacks like there is no tomorrow and they are down to their fourth practice squad quarterback, Tim Boyle.
Next season, they have many decisions that they need to make and one has to do with regarding the quarterback position itself. At the end of this season, Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock both walk into free agency. However, there has been much speculation as to what the Giants are going to do. They have a few options out there but no one knows if they are going to follow through with them with all of the current decisions that have been made by both head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen.
One of the options that the Giants have to fill this position and he wants to play for the Giants is Cam Ward. He is a very young quarterback at the age of 22. Ward has already played on four different teams such as the Incarnate Word, and Washington State, while currently playing for the Miami Hurricanes. He has appeared in 56 games over the last several years. This season the 22-year-old quarterback has posted stats such as 4,123 yards, and 36 touchdowns, yet has only had seven interceptions in total out of the whole season. The Giants definitely have had their eyes on him for the 2025 NFL Draft. Ward declared for the NFL Draft at the end of the 2023 season but decided to use his remaining eligibility to transfer to the University of Miami during the 2024 season. Ward could quite possibility be the Giants’ next front-runner at the position when he finally enters the league during the draft in April.
The other option is that the Giants are looking into Sam Darnold. Darnold has been considered to be a backup for the last several years. He has been passed around from team to team such as the New York Jets, the Carolina Panthers, the San Francisco 49ers, and now the starter for the Minnesota Vikings after rookie quarterback JJ McCarthy suffered a season-ending injury. Darnold isn’t a much older quarterback at 27 years old but he knows his way around the field and knows where he needs to get the ball too. He will be a free agent at the end of the season. So far this season, he has passed for 3,530 yards, and 29 touchdowns, with only 11 interceptions. Call it how you want, but the Vikings are 12-2 this season and are tied with the Detroit Lions for first place in the NFC North. Most of their success is coming through the play of Darnold at the quarterback position.
If the Giants are able to get their hands on one of these two quarterbacks it will be interesting to see how things play out. Also, if they’ll be able to make a turnaround for the better. Once they start making contact with the Giants receivers such as Malik Nabers and Tyrone Tracy Jr, points will finally be on the scoreboard. The Giants just need to be smart with their decisions and start making moves. What they really need is a franchise quarterback and both Darold and Ward have what they need. It really will be something if the Giants can pull themselves out of this rut for next season.
