Giants Offensive Tackle Out for the Remainder of the Season

NFL

The New York Giants are officially down another man. Andrew Thomas is expected to be out for the remainder of the season. He suffered an injury during this past weekend's game against the Bengals. On Monday, he had an MRI, which found that he had suffered a Lisfranc injury to his foot. On Wednesday, he underwent surgery to repair the tear.

Thomas claims that the injury occurred during the third quarter. He believes it happened during the Bengals' scoring drive. However, the Gianst offensive tackle did not mention it to anyone and suffered through the pain for the rest of the game. He mentioned he would need an MRI after the game. Since then, it has been downhill from there.

The loss comes as a huge blow for the Giant's offensive line. Thomas was a huge fixture of the offensive line. They were hoping to have him back on the field for the full season this year. Yet, the 25-year-old tackle was out with a leg injury last season. He only played ten games last year before only returning for six this year. Joe Schoen has spent a lot of time reworking the line this year, and he was a big factor in it. Last year's line only got 85 sacks in total all season.

Thomas is one of the best players on the line as he made huge strides on the field. The Giants offensive lineman has been amazing at playing the left tackle position. He ranks high among all offensive tackles this season. He has a pass block rate of 88.9%. The Giants had feared that the injury would be significant. Between Monday and Tuesday, they have been weighing their options as to what they will do. Most likely, they will be putting with Evan Neal or Jermaine Eluemunor. The team also can go with Joshua Ezeudu, who was the second team left tackle throughout the summer.  They have no choice but to put these two in. However, it remains to be seen how the Giants will adjust without him for the rest of the season.

This weekend will be much harder now that the Giants are missing another man. The offensive line will have to work harder. Hopefully, some other players will be coming back, but a lot of things still remain unanswered for this team. The Giants will be taking on another set of rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles.
