Giants Plummet After Loss to Saints

NFL

The Giants have officially sunken down to the bottom of the NFL in all aspects. Their fans are barely showing up at this point and cheering them on so that they can lose and get the first pick for next season’s draft. This is not a healthy look for the Giants at all and it actually makes them look worse than they already are. They even had a plane fly over the stadium before their game against the Saints asking Giants owner John Mara to fix everything that's going wrong with the Giants.

The Giants took another tumble and fell to 2-11 in this week's loss to the New Orleans Saints. The final score of this game was 14-11. It’s been getting better but not enough to gain them the wins that they need to make anything happen for them this season. Here are the key takeaways from this game.

1. The Quarterback Position Definitely Needs To Be Filled

Drew Lock was the one who started in the quarterback position. He did alright but it shows that he needs work despite there only being four games left in the season. He completed 21 of 49 passes for 227 yards. It’s not terrible however, he could have done a little bit better despite some of the pressure he was under. Lock also needed to find wide-open guys and he had plenty of them. There were times during this game when Lock could have thrown the ball to any of his receivers, however, he ran the ball. He was playing the way Daniel Jones had been when he played for the team. This was not the best decision to be made by Lock in his position. There was rushing where there should not have been on the field.

The Giants are in definite need of replacing their quarterback for next season. Both Lock and Tommy DeVito walk after this season. They need a miracle to make things happen at this point. However, they will have to wait until next season to fix nearly everything.

2. The Offensive Line Actually Got It Together

It was once again a little too late for the Giants. The Giants were dropping passes throughout the first half of the game and they had points taken away from them. They had a touchdown taken away from them after a penalty was called during a punt return and then had a field goal taken away from them after another penalty was called. It was almost as if they did something good on the field and someone was getting a call on them no matter what they did and the Giants were getting more points taken away from them than actually earning them.

It was not until the second half when Lock was making full contact with his receivers. They were not getting the ball to Malik Nabers which was a key thing for this game. It was almost as if throughout the game, that Lock was passing it or running it to everyone else but him. It wasn’t until the ball got into Nabers hands that things actually started to happen on the field. Everyone else picked up on what was happening and started to follow the lead. However, this all happened between the third and the fourth quarter, way too late to make things happen. They were close to a win too with tying up the game with a field goal but it was blocked and the Giants failed the kick making it no good.

3. The Defense Was Not Its Usual Mess

The defensive line is full of injuries. They had absolutely no one on their starting line on the field. It was all the third-stringers and full of young new guys who have never really had much play time on the field. However, they did great in protecting the ball. The defensive line held off the Saints only allowing them to score 14 points throughout the entire game. They had two sacks on Saints quarterback Derek Carr. They even got their first interception for the first time since week three made by third-stringer cornerback Tre Hawkins. They really had it together for this game despite having another loss for the season
